Half Life 2 system requirements revealed!

In: Fun

13 Jul 2004

Via Eurogamer via Neowin.net:

But for those who want to see the game running in all its glory, be prepared to spec up to around a 2.4 GHz machine, with 512MB RAM, Windows 2000/XP and a DirectX 9 capable graphics card.

2.4 GHz machine – check
512MB RAM – check
Windows 2000/XP – Duh!
DirectX 9 capable graphics card – check

Looks like I don’t have to upgrade (again) for Half Life 2.

Man, could you believe I actually posted a blog entry on the specifications of a computer game? But then again, we’re talking about Half Life 2 here guys.

AMD 1800 (1.6 Ghz)
256 MB RAM (been meaning to get some more anyway)
GeForce4 MX (AGP) 64 MB

For some reason I just think it’ll run without too much problems, even though it’s about half of what they list.

I have…

1.1GHz Celeron

GeForce4 420MX (64MB PCI!)

My system is laughable but it ran the beta not badly at all and can run CS:Source well, so I have a chance I hope…

Can someone plz answer my question??

you reckon my rig can run it???

P4 2.4ghz
512DDR RAM (Only 266mhz :@)
60GB Harddrive
ATI GeXcube 128MB DDR 9600xt, clocked at 500/600 (cant remember whats what)

I run farcry on 1024×768 everything maxed out at about 25 – 35 fps out side and inside at about 50 – what ever :P

I run Doom 3 on 1024×768 High getting about 90fps running around (I took the frame limiter off) and in a fight I get about 25 – 40

Do you reckon I could run it???

My PC:
P4 2.66 GHz (can overclocki it even to 3.4 GHz)
256 MB DDR266 RAM
GeFOrce 4 Ti 4200 with AGP 8X 128 MB

Can run DooM 3 @ Medium details 1280×1024 res @
40 to 60 FPS (FIGHT/NORMAL) and HIGH details at 1024×768 with crazy 25 to 35 FPS.
It’s a bit crazy that Half-Life 2 has a minimum of 700 MHz P3 processor 128 MB RAM and a 64 MB directx 6 or 7 card.I even got some trailers but what i see from them is that it’s going to run at my card on maximum details without any problems.I’m yust sorry that DooM 3 doesn’t run with directx 9 technology so that i could see all of it’s glorry.I hope HL2 will…

Quit showing off your gay computer specs. you dumbass losers.. What’s the point of writing down ure specs. if u know that ure not gonna get a feedback… Try looking for the ACTUAL required specs. on google or something.. Stupid…

Well,
i have to say that HL2 is the most anticipated game of my LIFE. i’m not taking any chances.
current system:
AMD XP 2600+ – runs at 1.93ghz
1gb 333mhz ram (512*2 sticks)
128mb, 128bit ATI radeon 9200
Win XP pro
replacement cost for above spec – $1095 (aus)

NEW COMPUTER (when i get it)
P4 2.8 ghz
1gb 400mhz ram (512*2 sticks)
256mb, 256bit ATI radeon 9600 (i think, maybe pro)
120GB HD
6.1 surround sound card
6.1 surround speakers
wireless mouse and keyboard.
19″ monitor

cost, about $1600 (aus)
maybe more.

it’s gonna be AWESOME. i can lie in bed and play it without using extensions for the keyboard.

i’ll hear water dripping behind my right shoulder.

Don’t waste time just making the specs, THRASH THEM.
YOU ONLY GET TO PLAY HL2 FOR THE FIRST TIME ONCE.

take my advice, and take HL2 to the MAX.

LiLbUg – size DOES matter

anything that can run DOOM3 can run halflife 2 better. halflife 2’s graphics aren’t as demanding, not that they’re crap, they’re just handled better.

Ey Gustav du Toit
Dude my friend has a 64 bit 3000 AMD 9800 pro 256 bit ,1 gig of 400mhz ram and a 120gb harddrive and he cant run farcry ut2004 or farcry at what you do, you are either seriously bullshitting!!! god damnit a 9200??? I had one of them and I couldent even run farcry at 800×600 medium (it was just playable) my specs are:
P4 2.4ghz
512DDR RAM (Only 266mhz :@)
60GB Harddrive
ATI GeXcube 128MB DDR 9600xt, clocked at 500/600 (cant remember whats what)
And I cant run games like you can

You really are a dickhead or you have typed your specs wrong which I really think you have!

I have a coppermine @ 733 overclockable to 800+ so BIG pass on the minimum specs there.
I have 192 MB or PC 100 RAM so I’m way over the hill there
And I got a Kyro Hercules 32 MB graphics card, looks like I’m on par…
I’m gonna buy this game to give me the incentive to purchase a fucking ripper of a box, might even try building one myself, anyone got ideas for a box that will run HL2 beautifully, I don’t need a hard drive or case but everything else has to go.

hopefully i can run it with everything more or less cranked up. I heard about a month ago about problems they were having running the game on the nvidia FX cards. The article i read said that the frame rate dropped down extremely low, but i guess obviously they have fixed these problems.

for a start, you havent got enough RAM, it may say 256mb on the back of the box, but your’re only gonna have about 128mb free for running games, also, your onboard graphics aren’t doing you any favours.

(Sorry for degrading comment)

Oh btw i upgraded to an X800 Pro and it runs 56.8 fps on video stress test

No problems whatsoever, excellent performance at high settings, First 3 secs of new area slightly jerky, after that 100% smooth.

I’ve got Pentium III 1.1GHz, PC-100 SDRAM 192MB, 80GB 7200/8Mb, GeForce FX 5200 128/64 bit PCI (I have no AGP ports). My PC is too old….I know….but I hope that it will work at least on minimum/medium settings.

And I would like to say that asking someone if it’s gonna work on P4 with 1GB RAM is stupid !. People stop showing off !.
