Ahem! 5 reasons not to buy an iPod

In: Fun

Well, CNET has posted “Five reasons not to buy an iPod“. Of course, realistically for most people, there are only 2 reasons in there that really matter (reasons 1 and 3); for the active, reason 2 as well.

In case you were thinking, no I wasn’t thinking of getting an iPod. My main beef with the iPod is its price. And 6 hours of battery life just doesn’t cut it. I’d much rather get one of these or perhaps one of these. Maybe in 7 months time.

Well I like my iPod, it’s really nice to sync playlists with iTunes. Having contacts and meetings at hand is also sometimes useful if I don’t carry a PDA. But what I like most, is the ease of use (menu, jog dial). I would never go with another mp3 player again :-)

I have yet to see a better alternative to the iPod. The Dell comes close, but there are no HD-based players that are as small or look half as decent. Everyone’s trying to compete on features; Apple’s competition needs to focus on *looks* and *usability*, 2 things that Apple usually has on everybody else, but that’s the only way competitors will eat into Apple’s market share. With such an obvious luxury item, features/performance sometimes come secondary to looks, and especially to ease of use.

Well, I still want an iPod, no matter how many reasons they come up with for me not to get one!
