50 Gmail invites - open to public soon?

Would you look at that? Google has given me 50 Gmail invites to give out. I’ll bet everyone else with a Gmail account would have a whole bunch of them too. This reeks of either a stress test (though I can’t really think of anyone who hasn’t got a Gmail account by this time) or a public release of Gmail soonish.

And for those of you who wrote to ask if I was OK, thank you for your concern. I’m rather fine, not doing too well balancing work, writing, and a World of Warcraft addiction. I’ll be blogging more once I submit my final draft, but before that, blogging will remain sketchy.

Oh, has any Community Champion got their autographed Firefox T-shirt yet? I haven’t heard anything from sfx, but then again, I haven’t really been keeping up.

yeah…. I got that many as well… Odd stuff… Kind of pointless… *shrugs*

As for the SFX thing… I requested a print of the ad… Haven’t even gotten an email back… SFX = Ball Droppers. SFX should be disbanded and more responsible people put in place…

Yup, I think they’ll go public very soonish…I’ve seen reports of people having up to 200 invites around the net…

Me too… I thought they have some bug on this… 50 Invitations! Now it is proved that everyone have the same amount of invitations…

Actually, no. While many people have gotten the 50 invites, a number of others (including me) have found that our unused invitations have been cancelled, leaving 0.

One possible explanation is that I don’t actively use Gmail. And I’ve only given out a few invites.

Anyway, it looks like Google has changed from “everybody gets a few” to “some people get tons and other people get none.”

I’ve still only got 4 invites. I can’t even give those away. I’d dread to think how hard it would be to give away 50, yet alone 200.

I got my 50 finally tonight and one went to someone looking for an invite who emailed me. The other 49 went to http://isnoop.net

anyway i’ve got quite a number of gmail invites too, but doesn’t matter even if google removes them. cos if they never, the invites will be there and they’ll still be there for quite some time.. really can’t think of anyone to give to. =p

I have 250 invites, perhaps they are never going to have a public release but instead release more and more accounts gradually.

Your ‘enlarge comments textarea’ also works in opera 8 beta..

I just got invited by being on google’s announcement mailing list, so did a couple of friends; after personal invites, then mass mailing list invites, I’d think going public is the last step :)
