Google - the XUL versionSeptember 25, 2004
Google has a XUL version of its search page at
http://www.google.com/mozilla/google.xul. Searching takes you to the “normal” HTML pages though.
For the benefit of those of you not using Mozilla Firefox, here’s a screencap:

The paper doll icon that precedes each comment is an idea conceived by Vanessa Tan.
As reported in other weblogs already: this is the Google sidebar for Mozilla and is there since Netscape 6.
I’ve had that bookmarked for over a year now, but completely forgot about it. Bookmark it, then set it to load in the sidebar, and you’ve got a nice little Google sidebar. Kind of a round about way to do it when you can Google from the built-in search bar, but it does let you search Google News, Groups, Images, etc. all from one spot without having to load new pages.

Everyone’s probably heard about Google working with The Mozilla Foundation to create a Google browser. This is more Moz-related Google activity: http://www.google.com/mozilla/google.xul It’s an XUL-based Google search, though the results are still HT…

If only I had Firefox to try it.. :( Will be interesting if they make the results in XUL too!
I wonder if they’re *trying* to get people to think Google Browser will be Gecko based?
Perhaps this is the first google page that is XML compliant. At least, google doesn’t have a great track record yet with valid pages.
