Can’t ditch IE because of Google PageRank? Now you can

With the Google Pagerank extension! This is a Firefox 0.9.x compatible extension that adds a Google PageRank widget to the statusbar.

it acts exactly as the real googlebar on IE: calculate a checksum, send a request to google.com (with the googlebar User-Agent string), and the reply contains the pagerank.

Grab it from installation section or the author’s website. (Note: Firefox should prompt and say something to the effect that the installation has been blocked. You can trust this extension, so click on the “Edit Settings” button that appears and allow the installation.)

It updates when you switch tabs (it could take a while depending on your Internet connection), in case you were going to ask.

I was wondering how long this would take after I heard that someone had worked out the hashing algorithm. I suppose Google wouldn’t be too keen on this, given that they put the hash requirement in there in the first place, but I can’t see a way for them to change the mechanism without ruining a whole lot of IE Googlebar installations.

Wilson, I’m *not so interested* in other stuffs than Google offer… (LOL)

Since I seldom uses those services (e.g. I’m feeling lucky, image search, windows search), I’d better save more space for displaying webpage.

By the way, some of the stuffs that Googlebar offers can be emulated by bookmark with keyword, e.g. “dict redemption” as the shortcut to query “redemption” in “dictionary.com”.

Very Cool! I am interested in what other extensions you are using that give you those other icons in the status bar.

Segraves, you can get those “other icons” if you use the current nightly build. Or you can wait until Firefox 1.0 RC is out.

Nice, wish I could use it. I’m staying with FF 0.8 until the PNH toolbar is updated… I just can’t live without it.

tom, you may use Mozilla/Firefox Web Developer Extension by Chris Pederick instead of the PNH toolbar. AFAIK it is FF 0.9 compatible.
