Gmail invites - so hard to give away

When I last gave out a Gmail invite, I had to squeeze out 1 for my dear blog readers (actually, when I got more invites, I gave another one to Joshua too). Now it seems that even 2 invites are so hard to give away.

It seems that the Gmail craze is finally dying down. Well, at least in the blog circles. Gmail’s on almost every blog and almost every blogger has one (either through an account at Blogger or through viral means). Colleagues at work have Gmail. Friends don’t see the need for Gmail. I’m actually having a hard time thinking of people who could use an invite. So from now on I’m giving away invites on my blog to readers. I’m not giving them to just anyone who searched for “Gmail invite” on Google and popped over. I happen to be listed on the first page of search results on Google for “Gmail invite” at this moment, and that has surpassed my usual high-ranking search terms of “bittornado“, “uxtheme.dll“, and “hotmail thunderbird” within 3 days - 1466 visitors via that search phrase.

I was looking down the list of people who posted in response to my entry asking my readers to show themselves, looking for people to give away the invites to, but I wasn’t sure who wanted them. If you posted before and want an invite, let me know.

I agree… they’re getting very hard to get rid of.

I got two invitiations last week, so I gave the extra away on my site with a goofy little guessing game. In the 36 hours the “game” was open, I got just one guess.

I am a rare blogger who has no gMail, and thus your heart must be filled with pity for me. Is it filled yet?

(And I actually found this entry through… let me see, the mozillazine feedthingy, I think. No google whatsoever.)

I suppose that what I’m saying is that should you happen to have an invite free, I would not complain were I to receive it.

I have the same problem. And my comment space has gotten quite a few people wanting gmail invites. The first two I gave away because I forgot to specify “friend” in my open invitation on my blog entry so my own fault. The next couple were a bit more inexcusable and I don’t know of a nice way to convey to them how shameless I feel their request is (made worse by the usually facetious and superficial sounding comments regarding the contents of my blog: no, you don’t have to mention Cisco or tell me you’ve driven a Mazda!)… Maybe I should just give all of them away so I don’t have to deal with it anymore? :)

well if you want to give one away i could use a g-mail
don’t have one at the mojo but would be usefull when i start my phd in october (all those large thesis in pdf)

I’ve been reading your blog since… well since that microsoft frontpage ad with the neat code cleaning feature :P
I believe i found it via Mentalized, but i don’t really remember anymore.
I’ve been reading alot more ever since I got interested in css and standards.

I don’t really comment much (this is my first here actually), i hardly comment anywhere unless i really feel a need to, or if it is requested like now.

I don’t really need a gmail invite though, I’m perfectly happy with my normal pop3 :)

Hi I would like a GMAIL invite if you have one. I could not find work in Canada and so I had to go to Korean.
My wife is sending me pictures of our baby as she is growing up. I really miss my family. I could sure use the storage space. Please help by getting me a Gmail Invite.

Hi Chu Yeow,

I did respond to your earlier Gmail invite entry, more so because I’m a regular reader than to actually get a Gmail invite.

Here in Belgium, we seem to be lagging behind on the US and UK, since I don’t know anyone who’s got a Gmail account.

I don’t really NEED an account, and I’m sure I can wait and one day one will be dwindling into my life… It would be kind of cool of course, but I don’t know if that’s reason enough to have one?

Just wanted to let you know that if there are people who do NEED one, get them one, I’ll wait my turn.

Anyway, hope the Czechs win. Or the Portuguese. Or the Greeks. Hope the Dutch lose that is ;-)

I am writing to see if by chance you might have any more Gmail accounts left to give out. If so I really would appreciate getting an invite. It’s not really because of the space, although it is a generous amount of room, but I use Google all the time, sometimes many times a day and it just makes sense to me to get mail from there too. GOOD DEEDS IN EXCHANGE FOR GMAIL INVITE!!!
I am desperate for a gmail invite! I will donate 20.00 to the first homeless person I see tomorrow on my way in to work in exchange AND I will then use my gmail invites in exchange for other good deeds…so your invite to me will spawn possibly hundreds of good deeds!!! Think of how much better the world will be if you invite me!!!
