Gmail invite for loyal reader

Update: I’ve invited Anthony Eden - Anthony used to offer FreeRoller (a site that offers free blog hosting) for free, but has since moved on and FreeRoller is now JRoller (still free). I used to have a FreeRoller account myself.

Note: If you haven’t been a reader for awhile, I’ll know, so don’t try and fake it.

I’m giving out 1 Gmail invite to a reader who has been with me for awhile. If you could show yourselves, by commenting and telling me a bit about yourself, I’ll send you an invite. No, I’m not whoring out my invites (at least I don’t think so) - I just thought this would help me to get to know my readers a bit better. redemption in a blog has been steadily growing with about 2,000 visits a day, but I’m not seeing many of my readers commenting. I sometimes wonder if anybody actually reads what I write or there’s some bot out there periodically requesting my webpages at an approximately linearly increasing rate.

I’m not giving it out based on who posts first, but rather genuine readers (I’d have make educated guesses, unless I know of you from the “before time”).

Initially I’d wanted to give out 2 invites, but that has quickly whittled away to just 1. Oh well, I’ll get more invites soon I guess.

I was going to avoid the GMail hype but alas I can’t help myself. So if you still have that one I’d be happy to take it off your hands.

Hi Chu Yeow,

I have only been reading your blog for about 6 months or so. Can’t really remember how I got to yours site, but I have been coming back since…

I’m a PeopleSoft freelancer (HR ERP application) living near Brussels, Belgium and working in the Netherlands. I usually read your entries from bloglines, but I often find myself clicking through to read more.

I especially like the fun and blogging sections!

Keep up the excellent blog!

Hi Chu Yeow,

Um.. I don’t know if you see me reading this or what, but I’m the guy who uses Firefox builds by bangbang023, and only recently switched around to see what’s new. I don’t remember when I started reading your blog, but I remember coming to this place via VanTan.org.

BTW, I’m seeing Creative Commons 88×31 GIFS beside your archive links, but it could just be me.

I’m a 2nd-year design student in Temasek Polytechnic, studying towards a Diploma in Visual Communications. I’m probably the only person in my batch that knows about Web Standards and whatnot, strangely enough.

Take care,
Josh

You can rest assured that your comments are widely read - I do not visit the site often but read virtually all of your output via RSS - SharpReader - and have been doing so for some time now - I cannot recall when I added your feed - I do not make a note of these things.

I do the It for a small ( very small group of companies and am self taught - I use blogs to keep up to date and use Firefox as the browser although I regret updating as the no of extensions is still rather limited

Keep up the good work

Glyn

I read all the entries in your blog, but don’t comment very often. Only when I feel the need to comment (like now). I think this is the same for most blogs out there. People only comment when they want to say something, and that’s for the better as well.

I’d rather have 3 on-topic comments than 10 rather off-topic comments on my blog. But that’s just me :-)

not looking for for a gmail, just to let you know i do read, got here via Genetic Algorithms and read on mozilla and your general coding comments etc, i guess that part of the sydicated blog is that you are a silent part of the process. i don’t know if you know how many people are reading, but i’m theres one of me who does not comment there will be others

as a dance tech researcher i’m coming out of left feild, but at least it shows your thoughts have wide appeal!

thanks..

This is just a reminder that I still read every post, I just don’t have time to comment much, and you know I don’t need an invite, just wanted to reassure you, I’m always here.

I Gave In
I was trying to avoid jumping on the GMail bandwagon. I have an IMAP account with pretty much unlimited space. I’m happy with how my email works and I don’t think I need another email account. And then Cheah Chu…

Thanks for delurking! (Well, those of you that were “lurkers”.) :)

Dainkes: Thanks for your compliments. How does one freelance in PeopleSoft? I’ve never really used ERP software before, but I always thought you’d usually need someone in-house to manage the confidential stuff.

Joshua: Yo! A fellow Singaporean. And one who’s into Web Standards (and Firefox) as well. You should write Jaime (a designer as well) who’s spearheading a Singaporean interest group in Web Standards. We’ve under 10 people at the moment and waiting for the size to build up before we work up any real momentum in our efforts.

Strange about the Creative Commons images showing though - I can’t figure out why. Let me know if it’s still showing please.

Glyn: I agree as well, about upgrading to Firefox 0.9, because I really miss Tabbrowser Extensions. I can barely function without it it seems.

Dennis Pallett: Yup that’s true. I’m not very big on commenting myself and only speak when I’ve something to contribute (usually).

matt: Nice! Dance tech researcher - what is that, really? I’m just glad I got genetic algorithms out of my life.

Dave: :)

I’ve already got a gmail account, but how often do I get the invitation to talk about myself? ; )

I first arrived when you posted your PHP referrers script. As a bit of a side note, I always meant to say thank you for your suggestion on how to modify it to block self-traffic; I didn’t want to block all FallenEarth traffic though, just that from my own IP. I’ve made the appropriate changes.

I’m a student at the University of Washington, majoring in computer engineering. I play viola and piano, and now that my little brothers have sucked me into it, some Gunbound, heh.

Your Firefox posts have been very useful in highlighting new features.

One more thing, you can use the tabbrowser extensions straight off of the texturiser.net site. It works fine with 0.9 (as well as all the others I tried like IE View, Sage and DownloadWith). It’s annoying that it doesn’t appear on the new site, but I’ve had no problems with the functionality so far.

Cauis: You were one of the first few people to have me on their blogroll - I’ll remember you heh. Computer engineering is the same as what I did. “Did” should be a nice word in that contect, but really, I’d rather be back in school again.

Si: I think you redesigned your blog right? Missed it since I last saw it. And thanks for pointing out that the old TBE works - I sort of knew that, but was really hoping a 0.9-compatible version came soon. IE View and Sage are on update.mozilla.org too.

dance tech researcher- well I look at how various technologies can be used to extend and be embodied in dance performance, there is a big dance and technology field out there and I’m a small part of it. the GA’s are a part of a real-time movement simulation / synthesis system i’m working on. but the bulk of my work at the moment in human and machine readable notation for avatar animation

Hey Cheah Chu Yeow,

I don’t read all your blogposts but I certainly visit on a regular basis. I’ve been active at SPF for a few years so that’s where I found out about your blog.

I’m bad at writing constructive/usefull blog comments so that’s why I don’t comment much.

Oh and I already have a Gmail account :)

Not after a gmail account [you will see i have one ;-) ]- just a suggestion to use a sensible password [sure you are already] as a gmail exploit is making the rounds:

“Software designed to exploit the much lauded Gmail service has just been released this week. Aptly named “Gmail Hack” the software performs Dictionary and Brute Force Attacks against a GMail email account.”

This seems like a good place to ask this.

I’ve got a friend with a G-Mail account, though he never uses it. I’m trying to get him to give me an invite, though he has none to give (and he’s never given any out). How exactly does one accrue G-mail invites? We’re both guessing you gain invites by using the service normally; say, if you send and receive X amount of emails, then you get 1 invite. Is this true?
