Just note that there are some descrepancies between the API documentation and the way things actually need to be implemented, at least if you're doing things in C++.

The worst instance of this is in the documentation for firing up the iTunes COM object from your code.

If you're working with C++ and run into any troubles with the API, let me know and I can share what I know with you.

As far as I know every plugin for iTunes is programmed in Objective C (although I have read that there are some in AppleScript). Brandon Fuller (the author of the 'Now Playing' plugin) might be able to give you some insight. His email address is brandon@fuller.name.
