New features for Firefox 1.0
We were told that Firefox 1.0 would have no new features over 0.9, just bug fixes. And then three new features come along.

Under the old system when the first popup is blocked a modal dialogue box pops up and tells you about it. Obviously this requires a tiny bit more effort to get rid of (as in two clicks instead of one) but when it comes to adding to the whitelist it's far easier.

I have to agree with minghong on this. I do not think this is a better UI. When I first saw it I was quite annoyed because it's just like a popup anyway! Unlike a regular popup which has an 'X' allowing me to close it, I could see no way of disabling it. It is only when I clicked it that it brought up a drop-down menu allowing you to disable it - if they were aiming for usability they would have placed a button right on the toolbar that pops up saying 'don't show me this again'.

Then we still have to choose that option once (that option is not easy to found). Not very nice I think.
This should be configurable inside Tools > Options. Just add it to the "Web Features".

"I hope there is a setting to disable this"

try looking at the picture and in particular the "don't show this message again" option on it.

Whoa, it's cool! Be faster than Microsoft, and you'll won. A politician of us told yesterday: not anymore true that big fishes eats small fishes. The truth now that fast fishes win, slow fishes lost. Be fast, implement cool features.

Maybe it's not a good idea to add features, but adding really good features may be allowed and preferred. Just do it as fast as you can, because we need testing!

As minghong said: the current system works well, why take up so much screen real estate? this makes popups more annoying again.

I hope there is a setting to disable this, and go back to the current way of doing this. If there isnt a UI pref for this, there certainly should be an about:config setting

Note that the new popup messagebar is OPTIONAL, and that the little 'popup blocked' icon still shows up in the statusbar, but now it is over on the right-hand side. Took me a bit to find the new position...

The current popup alert is nicer... Why occupy so much space for just a popup alert? I thought the popup killer is mean to eliminate annoyance...
