Firefox Download Manager extension

21 Feb 2004Came across this Download Manager extension for Firefox in the MozillaZine forums. It saves some screen real-estate by compacting out unused whitespace and looks better. Whether the interface is more intuitive is up for contention.

Pretty, but :) I personally feel the download manager was a huge step backwards for Firefox. I’ve pointed my wife and friends at Firefox 0.8 and they’re always confused when they download files as to what the heck is going on. Why this is the /default/ behavior and not extention-only is beyond me… *shrug*
I’m anxiously awaiting the extension that gives me my old download windows back. In the meantime, I’m using Download Statusbar… it’s pretty bearable.

You can disable the download manager by going into
Tools – Options – Downloads
Then uncheck the box next to
Show Download Manager …
This should suppress the download manager box for all future operations.

Disabling the download manager must be the number 1 perference in firefix!!!, I never found it before (perhaps the ability to search google style for parameters would be cool, ignoring about:config).
